Still shocked the Att. General office answered my phone call and took my name. I guess they are collecting them for some reason.
You can reach Attorney General Bruning's office by calling (402) 471-2682.

I got a email from the NRA today about the states we will honor to carry here. I see we will honor Iowa to me unless they are going to allow us to carry over
there which I doubt will happen I dont see this as being very fair.
If guns cause crime mine must be defective!!!!

FYI, received a quick response from the Ohio AG office. They were not aware that Nebraska had passed this CHL legislation, and that Ohio was on the list. Asked
for source info, and I gave them ccwne.com as a starting place. The Ohio AG rep said they would check it out, and contact the Nebraska AG about formal
reciprocity.

I for one have told all my relatives that live over in the Tuck(CouncilTucky) to join http://www.iowacarry.org/ and help out as much as they can.

I have a good friend and fellow shooter in IA who told me the Iowa Carry group has tried 7 times in recent years for a CHP. Their numbers are big, but he tells
me there is enough resistance in Des Moines and IA City to continue the madness. By the way...something I was not aware of that he clarified for me. IA does
not issue a CHP. They issue a person a Handgun Carry Permit. This allows one to carry open or concealed. Interesting no?
One thing to keep in mind should you contact another state...there are some in which the Governor is the sole authorizer of reciprocity vice the AG. Texas is one such example. He has executive authority to make that decision. In fact, that was the case for the Nebraska CHP in 2007receiving recognition from TX.

Iowa has a "may issue" system instead of a "shall issue" system. There are no provisions in Iowa Law to allow the Governor or Attorney
General to authorize reciprocity.
Some Sheriffs think they can play God and decide who gets a permit and who does not. They have that authority and do not want to give it up. There area lot of good Sheriff's in Iowa that issue permits to all law abiding citizens that pass the back ground check. I commend those Sheriff's! www.IowaCarry.org |

Non residents apply to the state department of Public Safety. If you give them a justification for needing a permit in compliance with their law they will
issue you a permit, no need to go to a Sheriff.

Yeah, but "Because I want one." is NOT going to be a valid reason for the DoPS to give you one........

I just might have to try and see what happens. I will try to come up with something better then "because I want one" :-).

Im going too as soon as I get back from my leave of absence
I just received an email back from IA and it pretty much said unless I was correctional officer or public official that there was not going to be a permit issued. The 2nd type of permit you had to prove through the police of your state that your life was endangered by someone. I vote we get rid of IA reciprocity with NE since they do not wish nor have any plans to cooperate.

The NRA has came to Iowa with a shall issue bill and reciprocity provisions. IowaCarry supports this bill.
You can read the bill on the main page of IowaCarry.org. It is in red in the middle of the page. www.iowacarry.org

As others have said, Iowa Carry has tried repeatedly to change Iowa from "may issue" to "shall issue". This time, they have the support of
the NRA. We will see if that makes the difference.
Actually, except for "may issue" and no reciprocity, Iowa has a better law than Nebraska, even with LB 430.
Before Nebraska had a concealed carry law, you could carry concealed provided you had a "good reason". It was an affirmative defense and you might have to face a trial. Twenty years ago, I shot combat with a local club. One of the members was an Omaha businessman who regularly carried a concealed .357 when he took the day's receipts to the bank. Cops who belonged to the same club were well aware of this and never objected. At the same time, an Omaha private detective was charged will illegal concealed carry because he had a loaded .45 in his briefcase. At trial, the jury considered his occupation and found him not guilty. I don't know if the present concealed carry law contains a similar exception or if it would cover the upstanding citizen on a gang's hit list that I mentioned earlier.

Another HUGE problem with Iowa's law is that concealed carry permit information is not protected and if some A-hole sheriff wants to post your name and
address on the web, he can without breaking any laws.
One particular A-hole sheriff over there has already done it. |

IA's permit is not confined to concealed carry. It is a permit to carry a handgun, concealed or open. Just splitting hairs......
