I really don't disagree with what the NRA says. Most of the encounters are at 3 yards or less and that in most of the observed cases by law enforcement they did not use their sights. You need to have several tools in your toolbox. Close up from contact to 3-4 yards practice point shooting-speed rock-etc. At longer distances 4-10 yards you try for a flash sight picture (Jim Cirillo taught weapons aiming, in where you used the entire rear shape of the fire arm to determine if you are on your target. And finally 10 yards and beyond you use your sights. Nothing in the NRA guide specifically tells a student that point shooting is the only method to use. Some people even teach de-escalation, less lethal force, etc. Are they right or are they wrong. When you only have a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.
