SO....... does Omaha have the power to require PERMIT HOLDERS to register (after 430 takes effect) their guns, or not? If not, then we'll see a spike in
permit numbers, I'd bet.

Well what if you sell it to a relative?
Then they gift it to you as a late birthday gift? Not sure how this works.

movado wrote:Funny how it works. You can sell it to a relative who is not an Omaha resident (as long as they have a permit to purchase). You can notify OPD that you sold it, but I am sure they are going to want to know the details of the transaction. Think they "destroy" your info afterwards, or the info on the new owner? I bet they don't. As far as I know there is no way to effectively unregister a weapon from OPD. Until the new law goes into effect I will still carry my unregistered hardware when I am in Omaha, and will use the AG's opinion if I get hassled about it as my defense. |

I still have several handguns registered under my name that have been sold (real effective system huh?). Unfortunately, OPD will not transfer the registration
unless you sell the handgun at their window.

ram4x4nut wrote:That would be more hassle than it's worth. The officer can confiscate the weapon and book it into the property room and there it will stay until you get a court order to have it released. I know this because I worked in the property room when I was on light duty. Just wait a few more days until the new law takes effect. |
