We have an individual in our area who open OCs all the time. When parents see this man they tend to hustle their children away. We learn some of our fears from
our parents. Is he sending the wrong message? How many of these young people will grow up fearing firearms? Do we send the same message when we OC.

bullit wrote:That is technically true, but as you already alluded to in your other post Omaha does prohibit Open Carry unless you have proof of proper training on your person. In effect, in Omaha you have to have an "open carry permit" (no, it's not called that, but that's basically what it is). I just posted because I wanted to make sure that casual readers wouldn't open carry in Omaha without investigating the requirements for doing so. |

I read the final bill carefully, and it appears that a CHP holder no longer has to register a pistol that he owns, even if he does live in Omaha. From looking
at all the laws affected, it appears that Omaha can still regulate the SALE of pistols and revolvers, requiring registration for such PURCHASED in Omaha. It
appears that the language clearly makes null and void any law that regulates the OWNERSHIP of handguns by the holder of a CHP. From my reading of the final
bill, a CHP holder would not need to register a handgun that he purchased out of the city limits of Omaha, nor would he have to carry proof of registration.
This could get interesting.

The big question is, WHEN will LB430 take affect?

90 days after the Unicameral ends its session i.e. the law should be effective about the first of September.

ccw is basically worthless to me.

Texas requires an "Official" sign, specified in the criminal code (Section 30.06)...... it's a great big, in your face deal...... consequently,
few places post it- it draws more attention than the CCW would.

Does anyone want to venture a guess as to which states will be recognized by the AG, as meeting the requirements to carry in our great state?

One thing TX did, too was make the business establishments legally liable for their customers/patrons/etc should they post. Thus, one reason you don't see
many signs. That also flies in the face of the NE businesses saying "our insurance company told us to".
heat....knowing the AG, he will ultimately allow any and every state with a CHP that he can by our law. See that it is very vague with regards to whom he can approve, I foresee that to be all... Just my two cents.

Today is listed on the legislative agenda as the last day of this session. If so, LB 430 should become law on August 27, 2009, if I can count to 90 correctly.

See you all in line at the gun store

Has it been determined which states will now be honored in NE?

JWeedy wrote:I don't know. But this business about which states honor other states' permits is a bunch of crap. There should be universal reciprocity between all states. We already do the same thing with drivers licenses, why not handgun permits? I don't see any difference between a handgun permit and a drivers license, except for the fact that a concealed weapons permit is much harder to obtain. That's why I believe each state should honor the handgun permits from the other 49 states. |

Hopefully Michigan will be on the list. We honor all states permits, however it is restricted to resident permits only. Our permit is honored by every state
that has a reciprocity law, so hopefully NE will keep that good streak going.
