With that line up, I just don't like our chances. Hopefully I am wrong. Too many Omaha lawyers on it. People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right.' Sometimes it feels like there is not much to do besides sit around & wait for legislation. This is a time for action. I have only received a reply from Sen. Council so far. Dear Sen. Council, I am writing to request that you vote LB430 out of committee so that it can be heard and debated on the floor. I am aware that you do not support gun rights for Nebraskans, but this is an issue that deserves to be debated. I am a law-abiding citizen. I have never committed a crime, and I do everything I can to abide by all state and local gun laws, even though I disagree with most of them. As the law stands now, I have to keep a sheet of paper in my car which lists all of the cities/communities where concealed carry is prohibited, and I have to pull my vehicle over, remove my firearm, and lock it in the trunk of my car before I cross the invisible boundary that would make me a criminal. Concealed carry has proven itself time and time again in over 40 other states. Concealed carry permit holders are the most law-abiding demographic of citizens in the country. If you're interested in seeing the statistics of concealed carry holders, as well as statistics of the adverse effects of gun-control, I would be happy to provide them to you. Posts: 5 (01/28/09 15:03:47) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I sent out an email thanking Christensen and I sent out an email to all 8 members of the committee asking them to support and get LB 430 out on the floor. My email to the committee: Dear Senators of the Judiciary Committee (Ashford, Lathrop, Christensen, Coash, Council, Lautenbaugh, Mcgill, Rogert) Senator Mark Christensen has introduced LB 430. This bill is aimed at "fixing" much of the confusion around the concealed handgun permit law. As a permit holder myself I would like to see this bill get out of committee and onto the senate floor for an up or down vote. As it is right now, I and many other citizens are in the dark about carrying in certain Nebraska cities that have bans on concealed weapons in their ordinances. I believe that I should be able to carry anywhere in Nebraska, including cities, with my permit. Cities should not be able to pass gun laws that are not in accordance with state law. The current state of affairs is a patchwork of gun laws throughout the state and citizens don't know when they are legally or illegally carrying a concealed handgun. Therefore I am also asking for your support of this bill. Please put your support behind LB 430, get it out of committee, and vote for the bill once it gets to the senate floor. Thank you for hearing my concerns on this matter.

Face to face visits are even better yet. I'm not able to go to Lincoln for a face to face but I will send emails and write letters. Just my $0.02

Registered Lobbyists paid or volunteer are an exception. Something to do with NE Open Meetings Act. Please if have doctrine otherwise post it. Posts: 5 (01/29/09 10:37:57) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	I'm waiting upon a return response from Senator Christensen re the date/time of the Judiciary Committee's hearing of LB430....and will keep ya'll posted. In the meantime, the NE legislature website posts each committee's agendas and upcoming LB hearings. So far, through January 30, the Judiciary Committee does not have LB430 listed yet. Soooooo, there's still time for contacting that committee's senators. I concur with the others who have advocated both e-mail and written snail mail. Important to contact all committee members; jury still out on Rogert, Coash, McGill, and Lathrop. Getting LB430 out of committee and onto the floor of the whole senate could very well hinge on how those four vote in committee...since Ashford and Council will go anti- and Cristensen and Lautenburgh will go pro-. Probably wouldn't hurt to contact any other non-committee senators who are definitely pro-gun so that maybe they can nudge the Judiciary Committee senators to get the debate out onto the floor so that ALL of the state's senators can speak for the people.

She is my district's rep, and her only response to me recently about LB430 was like a melted milky way on the asphalt during mid-July. Since then she has elected to not respond to any further contacts. She is also the only Senator who repeatedly did not reply to the Lincoln paper's surveys of state senators regarding various issues prior to the start of the current legislative session. Nonetheless, if her district folks as well as her colleagues can nudge her, maybe she'll consider that her next re-election bid could be hangin' on the outcome of how she handles herself on this LB430 bill. I don't know about the rest of my district, but most of my neighbors in the hood are a crew of liberal loonballs that are living in la-la land when it comes to gun rights.

As the law is currently enacted, a concealed carry permit holder can unknowing commit a gun crime by being in the wrong town, or in some cases on the wrong side of the street. The adage goes that ignorance of the law is no excuse, but in this situation the laws are so jumbled that the even the State Patrol cannot keep track. In their 2007 list of towns that ban concealed carry, they list Scottsbluff and South Sioux City. Both amended or repealed their statutes to allow permits holders to carry. Conversely, towns such as La Vista, which has a ban on the books, is not listed. La Vista police officials have said they don't intend to arrest anyone in violation, which just reinforces how much of a problem is created by the current situation. A permit holder can be violating the law by being on the south side of Harrison Street in Omaha. Please, help clear up this confusion and support LB430. Nebraska's concealed carry permit holders have gone to extreme lengths to prove they can be trusted (background checks, fingerprints, mug shots, classes). Continuing to make some of them into criminals based on an imaginary line on a city map is unfair, unnecessary, and in need of correcting. Please don't become the politicians our Founding Fathers warned us about! Support "We The People...", not the agenda you wish to force on those you disagree with. It is clear in the Constitution and in our Founders writings what is meant by the second amendment, no matter what your beliefs are. Support the document that I and so many of us treasure for our children. The document that freed us from tyranny. The document so many politicians ignore.... Benjamin Franklin: Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." Thank you for letting me know of your support for revisions to the Conceal Carry law. My district overwhelmingly opposed the passage of the conceal carry law a few years ago. I did not vote for it. During the debate on this legislation, a key compromise in order to get the bill passed was that local communities could continue to have stricter conceal carry laws.
