I attended a meeting yesterday at the Heartland Public Park in Grand Island. A lot of things were discussed and it looks like we'll have some expanded events at the park in 2009. They're looking at USPSA and have scheduled three 3-gun matches in June, July, and August. They also have some leagues getting set up for various pistol games and bench-rest rifle.
Some of you may recall the black rifle fun shoot we tried to organize last year. Only a few of you made it out, hopefully we'll get some more in 2009. Bill, the park super, was very enthusiastic about getting black rifle shooters back to the park.
We'd like for it to be something besides typical firing line/bullseye target shooting. Some kind of "action" rifle shoot would be great.
One option we considered would be something like this: http://www.actshooters.com/sample.html.
That particular example requires a rifle and a sidearm w/ holster. I suppose, depending on how the course is designed, it would determine how many mags are needed. In the interest of keeping it fairly low cost, a one or two mag stage might be ideal.
I'd love to hear some suggestions about what you want and don't want.
I think this should be more about fun than rules or classes. That is, I'd like it to be a "run what you brung" type of event. ARs, AKs, FALs, M1 Garands, M1 Carbines, SKSes, Glocks, 1911s, Sigs, revolvers... anything and everything.
