all the good short names are going to be taken.
We could do huskerfoa.com or huskerfirearms.com unfortunately foon.org is taken (firearms owners of nebraska) we could have nfoc.org or "nebraska firearms owners coalition" I don't like the "firepower" moniker, as I think some might then dismiss the group as radical militants. I want senators to fear us because of who the group represents, not because of a name. I dont think that would work. My $.02 anyway...
No doubt the assault weapon known as the "Ruger 10/22″ earned its name from its ability to kill
twenty-two people for every ten shots fired.

I think we have to be careful not to spend too much time over analyzing the name. About any name we come up with might have good and bad connotations.
"Coalition" to me instantly invokes thoughts of radical activists, but mostly because I can't help but think of Hank Jr's song "This is
the coalition to ban coalitions".
LOL this soooooo reminds me of spatting with my first wife on what we were going to name our daughter.

List of possible NFOA website names | ||

OK, I'll keep track of the list of names to vote on here. I just went down the thread starting from the first post and jotted down names. I have not
personally checked availability on any of these yet. I'll add any additional names to the list that you post.
Chris, maybe we should start a new thread or move this post somewhere where more people might see it? nebraskafirepower.com nefoa.org nefirearms.org nebraskafirearms.org supportNFOA.com huskerfoa.com nfoc.org nebraskaFOA.org

nebraskaFOA.org would be my first vote, but I'll willing to support whatever is decided. Well, maybe except huskerfoa.com

Yes, lets vote via the email list.
Lets get the list of names together.... Then have everyone pick their 3 favorite, THEN we can narrow it down to the 3 most popular and take a vote. Reason I suggest that is because if we have 10 choices and only 20 voters....... It is a little to spread out. |

Hi Folks:
I'm new to this forum (and Nebraska gun sites) so I've never been to the NebraskaFirepower website before it was hacked. I work full time in IT. I have a couple of questions/comments: First, What was the software you used on the site? If it was an open source program (such as joomla), hackers normally are not able to mess up your database. The database (where all the content is stored) should be just fine. Usually they just hack the index.php or index2.php page. If you were using something like joomla, I would just recomment deleting everything in your root directory (except of course for the folder you have your forum in. . . and back up everything first), and re-upload fresh files. Hackers often will have a hidden file someplace on the site that they will use to try to re-enter the site. As far as the domain name, I don't see a reason to get a different domain name. Even if you want to, you can still keep the original domain name and just point it to the updated site (i.e. you can usually have an unlimited number of domain names 'parked' on the main domain name that point to it). If you need any help with the process let me know. Matthew P.S. Off topic... I have my CCW here in Ohio and if I have a good chancge of getting and IT the position outside of Clay Center in Nebraska. I'll be looking to get my CCW there. It seems a little more involved to get it in Nebraska.... |

Thanks Cmzneb.
I clicked on the links you have for CCW training and I have a question you might be able to answer. I completed the NRA Basic Pistol Course June 29, 2008 (in Ohio). I also completed an advanced Handgun course that is not related to the NRA. From what little reading I've done so far of the Nebraska CCW rules, I take it that you have to have taken a CCW course. Do you know if the NRA basic handgun course I took would qualify? Thanks, Matthew

Matthew-
Unfortunately the NRA basic handgun or advanced handgun class will not qualify for a waiver. Reason the State Patrol is so stiff on who they will grant a waiver to is because a large part of the class we are required to teach is covering Nebraska specific laws and the rules and regulations of the Nebraska Concealed Handgun permit act. There is also a NE specific written test, and a qualification on the range. Let me know if you have any other questions. |

Welcome to the forum, Matthew! Got your PM and replied. Thanks for the offer to help. Any expert advice we can get on getting the NFOA site up and running is
awesome.
I think we are just going to start from scratch at this point for the NFOA site, and I have no intention of putting our site back up in addition to NFOA. The whole point of both endeavors is to unite Nebraska's gun owners, so I'll let Nebraska Firepower lie and put my efforts into doing what I can to help wherever they need me to get NFOA off the ground. As far as the domain name, not everyone is in agreement so we are going to take a vote and use what the majority vote for. I couldn't be any happier that we are finally getting something like this done, so I honestly don't care what the heck we call it as long as it has support.

Thanks for the info Cmzneb. If I get the position and move to NE, it will give me an excuse to talk my wife into taking the course with me
F6: I responded to you PM. If you need any help along the way with the NFOA site just let me know. Thanks guys, Matthew |
