Because now they've sided with Casady and his anti-gun crowd in making a political statement, and in doing so, even if they don't agree with the law, made it appear that he and the rest of the antis have more support than they really do. Permitholders already know where they aren't supposed to carry. If you agree with Casady, they you agree that permitholders are stupid and can't obey the law without a sign. Posting a place where it is already against the law to carry implies, to me anyway, that they would probably post their place of business if there were no law against carrying there in the first place, and thus unworthy of my business. It's not their fault there's a law prohibiting carry in their place of business. But when they play along with Casady's politics, I can take my business elsewhere. You guys need to be rallying businesses in Nebraska in opposition of restrictions against carrying, not defending them for posting because Casady asked them to.

Though it may appear Brewsky's makes more than 50% of their income from alcohol; how do you know for sure? Tell me all places in Lincoln who make less than 50% of their income selling alcohol. I can name you more than 50 places where it is not so clear. Shoguns, Applebees, BW3s, Buzzard Billy's, Big John's Billiards, Ruby Tuesdays, Spikes Volleyball Beach, Famous Daves, Chilis, Godfathers, Chuck-E-Cheese, Outback, Olive Garden... I am a permit holder and I'm not stupid. I do like having my permit and want to keep it. Tell you what, I will start rallying businesses if you give us a list of all Lincoln restaurants and their financial statements to tell us whether we will be committing a crime by carrying there. Has it occurred to you that there are concealed carry permit holders who put a sign in their store window to keep other permit holders from losing their rights by carrying illegally? No, because you have a narrow view that everyone is out to take away your rights. You choose to guess whether you are breaking the law just as you assume a business would post a sign if there were no law against carrying there; that is ludacris. Since I have taught many permit holders in Lincoln I would like to think none of them are stupid; at least when it comes to the law concerning their right to carry. Your point about putting a sign up saying that carrying a concealed weapon in a store is illegal makes you pro-Casady is well taken. With that in mind, I can take LJUnaTIC's anit-HAGEL sign to mean he is pro-Clinton, right? Well stated

It has backfired in the past where the business put up signs AFTER someone contacted them. DON'T make waves. Just leave well enough alone. And I highly doubt that Applebees, Chuck-E-Cheese, or any place that is primarily food with an alcohol kicker is above 50% sales. Use common sense, a bar is a bar. You may think a place is doing a favor by posting the signs, I do not. In cities where CCW is banned entirely some businesses still choose to put up the signs. They will never get a dime from me. This is pretty much the same thing. Welcome to the board, but tone it down some ... much of the ground you think you are breaking has already been. Some of it good, some of it bad. RELAX and enjoy.

You picked out two easy ones or so you think. If you want to break the law by carrying in the wrong places, it's up to you. You can base your decisions on "highly doubting" something if you want. And if they aren't sure then either don't carry there, or go somewhere else. If you go to a bar that sells food, then yes, likely you would be breaking the law. No, you put them out there. I don't know about the other places you stated because I've never been in those. They sound like bars to me so I wouldn't carry there until I knew more. We don't need these goofy little signs. But that's just my opinion.

Use your head (unlike the drunk guy on the motorcycle) and obey the laws that have been layed out for us. Remember always that the media and that rag of a local newspaper are counting how many unlawful occurences permit holders have. Many food establishments are a grey areas. If it's posted obey it. This isn't Casady's law, it is State law of the service of alcohol. What I would be more concerned about would be retail stores. Our Von Maur doesn't have any signs, so maybe the Omaha one was required by the owner of the property, not the store itself, but the mall. I know Casady is against armed citizens, but with only 4 officers per team area during happy hour he should be happy that there is help for his officers who are overloaded anyway. Not being a 24/7 kind of guy, I still won't do business with those who won't let us carry inside their business. Even if mine is at home, someone else may be packing and save my butt, so no gun, no business from me. And, not to drag my ramblings on for too long, but go to the NSP site, there really are not that many of us compared to what the director thought there would be applying. The Von Maur thing jump started the program I think, sadly but true. We are the minority, so obey those signs, stay sober or leave it at home, or we may have our law reversed some day.

Stopped there yesterday on my way to the meeting, got out to fill up my gas tank and saw the big ol sign on the door. I think this information might be enlightening. The last time I was in Scheels I spotted a rack of pamphlets near the east check out area. One was for the SouthPointe Pavilions. On the back of it is the Code of Conduct/Rules. It starts out stating that the Code of Conduct/Rules includes roadways and parking lots. And that, "As a visitor at SouthPointe Pavilions, you are prohibited from engaging in any of the following activities while at SouthPointe Pavilions." Long story short...#16 "Possession or carrying of any firearms, simulated firearms, or weapons of any kind, openly or concealed, with or without permit." So it looks like not just the food court is off limits. It may not be posted, but it's off limits. I called and spoke with the General Manager of Scheels, I asked him if he was aware of #16 in the Code of Conduct/Rules. He stated he was not. I mentioned to him that rule #16 might be applied to someone who bought a firearm from them. I also asked him if they walked the buyer and firearm out of the store. He replied in the affirmative. Then I pointed out to him that every new firearm purchase might be considered an openly or concealed weapon. He told me he would have to speak with the mall management. I said I would follow up with him in a week to see what he finds out.

Say a regulation sign not just suggested. I find myself while out and about when I enter a new place I haven't before while CCW I have to stand there and study the outside door just to be sure. Southpointe is a good example of why there should be a standardized sign.

Most of the public buildings will have the "30.05" law (yes, that is the number) which is written in a similar manner to weapons bearers. However, it does no apply, nor mention CHP holders. An example I saw recently was at the Hemisfair Arena/Convention Center in San Antonio. All I can say is, what a great place !!! Thus the migration of our young people and elder population to more progressive, forward thinking, lower taxing states.

You can see it in this thread: http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=837499 I think its a great idea since it allows a business owner to responsibly differentiate between an owner saying "State law prohibits carrying of firearms here" versus "We're scared of guns and we would rather get robbed then believe anyone is responsible enough to carry on premise". Unfortunately, I don't know if a business is required to post the signs. And I'm pretty sure I know who goes to jail if you carry on premise with a business that derives 51% or more of revenue from alcohol sales, but does not display a sign. (Although I would suspect under 30.06 if you are made aware of the 51% rule at some point you would reasonably be asked to leave. Not leaving, or returning once you're aware of the violation (even with no sign posted), would most likely earn you some new bracelets.) Also of note, the 30.06 laws are specific about the 30.06 size, including height of the letters, contrasting colors, etc. 30.06 puts the burden on the business or property owner for displaying the sign in a conspicuous manner, which is where the burden should be. Put the sign on the back entrance but not the main front entrance? You'll have lawyers beating down your door for that case (if you got arrested for it). Standard signs and placement is a must. The way 30.06 is worded, if the owner doesn't have a standard sign (i.e. "No guns allowed", or the gun with a red circle/slash over it) it doesn't mean anything (unless the property owner or manager verbally notifies you at some point). Again, that puts the burden on the place of business, versus leaving the gun owner wondering whether he/she can carry concealed on premises.
