Your first gun |

I thought this would be fun for all. I was raised in Avoca, TN. Just outside of Bristol, (part of Bristol now) We lived 1/4 mile from nothin. You could
walk througt the hills for hours. I got my first gun when I was twelve. I cut fire wood, and saved up $45.00. My dad ordered me a High Standard Semi
Automatic 22 from a Herters catalog. Price $38.75 plus shipping. I've fired thousands of rounds through that gun. She has a special place in my safe. My
kids are 23 and 20 now; I bought them thier first gun when they were 11and 8. Single shot Savage. They both learned to shoot with that gun. See, I was
smarter than my father; I didn't buy my kids a semi-automatic. They still went through a 1000 rd box of short everytime we went to Tenn. My dad's
first shotgun was a Stevens 12 gauge side by side. Bought my boy a matching 20 for his twelveth birthday. The twelve is mine now; will be his some day. My
dad's first gun was a Savage model 5. Dad gave that gun to my boy, the year before he died. Keep your guns in your family; pass them down. Teach your
children and grandchildren the history of the guns you have. Teach them to respect guns and how to shoot them. And we will have a another generation of
people who will have their rights.

The first gun that I owned was a Llama 9mm that I bought while stationed on the USS Wichita out of Alameda/Oakland, CA. I don't remember the model but it
was identical to a M1911 except you had to remove the rear sight to remove the firing pin. I sold it when I was stationed in Corpus Christy and will never sell
another ever again.

Great thread!
My Dad got me a single shot H&R 20 guage for Christmas when I was about 12. I can't even imagine how many shells have been run through that old gun, but we still use it to this day. I will have it until the day I die, then my daughter will have it. Our kids bring friends over that have never fired guns before, let alone have them, and with their parent's permission we give them a basic safety lesson and let them shoot all kinds of different firearms. That old single shot still knocks blue rocks down pretty regularly. It's pretty darn cool when my Dad, my wife and I are sitting back watching my kids and their friends shoot blue rocks, and one of the guns they are using is the one my dad got me when I was my kids age. Yeah, it makes me misty. My daughter's first gun was a Savage bolt action .22 I got her when she was 10. I never would have guessed that a year and a half later, she would be shooting just as tight of groups with her own Remington 700 .243 as I can. Her first shotgun was a Remmy 870 20 guage and she just got her first handgun, a crappy old RG .38 special that she thinks is the coolest thing in the world. She has this thing for revolvers, must have gotten that from my wife. She turns 12 this fall and is getting her own deer permit for the first time this year. Some of my most cherished moments have been the times it was just me and her out in the field looking for that big buck. She is so excited that she can't hardly wait for this season to get here. I just can't bring myself to tell her that I am more excited than she is. My stepson's first gun was a Marlin semi auto .22. Like Rufus said, I should have gotten him a single shot. He has since saved up and gotten a Remington 710 30.06 to deer hunt with and he is currently saving up for something in an AR platform so that he can get a head start for when he joins the military when he graduates. He is 15 and in JROTC now and loves it. The bride's first gun was a Smith and Wesson model 65 .357. She shoots it better than me. That sucks. LOL |
