no. within arms reach though.
No doubt the assault weapon known as the "Ruger 10/22″ earned its name from its ability to kill
twenty-two people for every ten shots fired.

Nope. It's at the manufacturer getting a new slide. The Mossberg 590's about 3 feet away though.

No, I'm in a federal disarmament zone. The security here thinks I'm more dangerous disarmed than they are armed if the criters come a callin.

It's a Kimber Pro Carry II. Kimber went with an external extractor when they went to their II series and they've had nothing but problems with it.
They've since redesigned the slide to use an internal extractor. I've had non-stop problems with FTF and FTE, so I sent the gun back to them to fix.
They said they're going to replace the slide (with the internal extractor). I should be getting it back some time this week.
Just a side note, Kimber has a one year (written) warranty, but they basically warranty their guns for life. I'm having them put night sights on it while it's there. I've had the gun for 3 years now and they're only charging me for the sights.

Hatchet 1961 is right. That is why "concealed" means "concealed". The only way that others find out is on the receiving end when
Condition Black occurs. Just like Special Ops. You never know who is unless you wake up dead from messing with one.......

Maybe you should do a package check - (ARMY)
#1 - I don't have a clue who you are bullit or Hatchet1961. #2 - I CAN'T find out who you are. #3 - I would highly doubt, if approached and asked this same question in person, that NONE of us would say what we did #4 - This was meant to inform/ponder each individual user as to their personal defense at the given time of reading. #5 - I did not ask if it was loaded, do you have kids, easily upset teenagers, physco wives, your home addresses, what you make per year, or your political affiliation. I just asked a very anonymous question, to anonymous people in our forum. If you feel threatened by this question, don't reply PS - Mine is in my back right pocket in a billfold holster. I don't have any in the chamber. (My personal preference with it pointing into my as*). I have 6 .380 hollow points in the magazine. If I was carrying my 9mm with the side holster on, I would have 1 in the chamber ready to rock, with 9 more waiting their turn. Now with the 9mm in the shoulder holster, I don't carry one in the chamber......yet...... Now I can draw on you from the back pocket in 3/4 of a second and rack one in the chamber in .25 seconds.......You may think that is too much time, but it is my personal preference. Now the physco wife can.........I'll save that for another story......... I will agree with you. concealed is concealed. No kiss and tell. This forum is different. HastingsNE |

How fast? | ||

Is that a guess, or actual practice drill times? One of the things I talk with people about is their ability to access the weapons they carry--and how long it takes. Most people are surprised how long it actually takes to draw and fire a weapon, particularly one from concealment. They often guesstimate, and mostly they underestimate how long it takes. How many people here have actually used a timer on their concealed rigs, to see how long it took to access the weapon, make it ready to fire, and put two shots into a silhouette target at 15 feet? If you have, how long did it take? Once you do that, bear in mind that is probably the best time you'll ever have, since you will be expecting the tone, and ready to go. Under any other circumstances, it'll probably take longer. T. |

I carry all the time. Last nite I rolled over and said to the wife;" know what this hard thing is"? She said: "it's not your Beretta 9000,
The barrels to short."

One way to find out FOR SURE how fast you can draw (and rack- if you carry in condition 3) and get that first round out is to use your carry rig as your
competition rig. That was what IDPA was SUPPOSED to be all about......
Yes, you can, (with practice) draw, rack, and get that first round out in about a second. At least I did, with an El Cheapo 1911 and a really crappy IWB holster. The gun/holster combo allowed the gun to come off safe on more than one occasion. The thought of a flaming propellant gas enema caused me to carry in condition 3 until I could get a better gun and holster. But in the mean time, I carried condition 3, and drilled that way, even to the point of doing it one handed...... it takes a second longer, and that rear sight leaves a nasty mark if you miss your belt, but it CAN be done..... but then a lot of things CAN be done: You can heat your house with dried cow crap- that does not make it the best option. I have a much better rig now...... |

#4 - This was meant to inform/ponder each individual user as to their personal defense at the given time of reading.
Thanks HastingsNE ! 2:00 a.m. finished one of my many honey do home remodeling projects... I got out of the shower and slipped on a pair of shorts 20 min. ago (no shoes, no shirt). I just walked the mutt down to the end of the driveway to let her do her thing while I pulled the mail from the mail box. 1 compact 40cal. XD, if not on me would normally be locked in the biometric print safe 8' away from where I'm sitting (10 seconds 12+1 chambered and one spare 12 round mag). The problem... it's at the gunsmith. 1 compact 40cal. S&W 99 is locked in the car trunk which is in our attached garage. It would normally be in the biometric safe as well when it's not on me. It is approximately 45' away with a 8+1 loaded (a key fob is in front of me/at least 30 seconds to get it). More bad news... Ooops no spare mags are ready to go. A full mag is in a drawer in the house. Two other spare mags are empty sitting in the range bag. There are 50 defense rounds with them in the bag. The S&W would not have been readily available if needed out at the end of the driveway. The dog (1/2 lab & 1/2 pit) would have been getting everyones attention and fortunately I did have my little Ruger LCP (.380 w/ 6+1 defense rounds holstered in my right front pocket and one spare 6 round mag / left shorts pocket). I still have it on me now. I see it as better then nothing and may have proved useful in any perceived high threat situation (it's been reliable sense it arrived back from Ruger). The compact S&W 99 is a great CCW firearm but I only have it on me about half the time. My compact XD is larger and harder to conceal and therefore not carried as often in the summertime. The LCP is not an ideal caliber defensive firearm, but it is on me 95% of the time. I often carry the compact .40 S&W with the .380 LCP as a backup these days.

jimbob86 wrote: Wow. That's incredibly fast. I remember hearing from a couple of guys who went to a class with Rob Leatham, and they were incredibly impressed that
from a bell-tone start, he could draw and fire one shot (from a production rig, so basic belt holster, not even a concealed holster) in 0.85 seconds. And you
are the second person on this forum who is saying that from a concealed rig, a person can draw, rack the slide, and fire in one second---only 0.15 seconds
faster than Rob. And that is with considerable extra movement and a harder draw!
Here's an idea---maybe I should start a new thread, and people can post their draw-and-fire times, as measured with shot timers. And, if they have fast
acquisition times, can help the rest of us out with tips on how to get better. I'd certainly like to be faster!
