New Senators

Does anyone think that it would be a good idea to start finding out where our future senators stand on our gun issues? How do we go about contacting them? Perhaps if we can put a bug in someones ear they will start to see the folly of the current legilsature and maybe we can get the rules changed (what ever they may be), getting Nebraska to honor other state issued permits, getting rid of stupid city ordnances and maybe even getting GFZ to accept liability if something should happen that...

Any district 29 folks?

After quizzing Susan Scott, who is running against recently-appointed Tony Fulton for the dist 29 unicameral seat, I received information as to her stance on several "big" issues. Here is what she had to say about firearms in NE.

I received a response from Nebraska state Senator Philip Erdman to my thank you for his switching his vote on LB958 and protecting us from the federal NICS. In his response, he stated "...purchasers of guns in Nebraska have to apply for a purchase permit 'in addition' to the federal instacheck requirements"(single quote marks are mine). General legislature question

In terms of the length of session, how does our Unicameral compare to other state legislatures? I think it's crazy they only work a few months per year. Is it like this everywhere?

I'm also relatively new to Nebraska... is there a desire to move back to a bicameral system?

LB 1076 is NE's "Katrina Bill." It prohibits any additional restrictions on ammo or firearms during an emergency, disaster, SHTF, etc.

I had e-mailed Senator Dubas about this urging her to support it. She wrote me back saying she is not inclined to support this bill.

It's troubling that a senator who used to farm in rural Nebraska (Fullerton), doesn't see the value of self-defense when a tornado strikes. As we all know, tornadoes are a very real...

Ashford Appropriations Bill to Fund 958

Ashford's appropriations bill, LB958A, wants $45,000 in fiscal year 2008-2009 to fund the implementation LB958, and $66,730 a year for "Program 100" to aid in 958's implementation. Anybody have any idea what "Program 100" is all about?

Meaning the Enrollment and Review committee has changed some language to "clean things up". I haven't really studied it yet.

WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO KEEP THE HANDGUN PURCHASE PERMIT SYSTEM IN PLACE TO KILL LB958?

That's the deal. The NRA gave up when the purchase permit system was killed. Is that good enough to pacify you or are you willing to give up that concession to get rid of LB958?

Barely by 1 vote. Go over to Joes Crabby Shack for a great blow by blow of what happened.

The NRA and many 2nd amendment supporters talked that this bill has been disarmed. I just don't understand the bill well enough yet to comment, I will try to study it tonight.

I still do not trust Ashford and we need to be very careful of what else is in there.
